Altar Servers

These young boys and girls come to assist the priest and deacons during the Mass.  It is an opportunity for full, active, conscious participation in our liturgies.  Servers must be confirmed and be a registered member of Holy Cross Parish.  Parent and child must both attend an informational meeting, then sign a commitment form, which is signed each year thereafter.  Training must be completed before they can serve and each server receives an informational booklet when they come to training.  Servers must have already had the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation.  They should arrive 20 minutes before Saturday/Sunday Mass.  Commitment varies as to availability and need.  All ministers are scheduled according to their Mass preferences.

Eucharistic Ministers

Ministers of the Eucharist share the Body and Blood of Christ with their fellow worshipers in the assembly.  Ministers must be a fully initiated Roman Catholic.  These individuals must have a willingness to be of service to the community founded in the love of God.  Every 3 years you must attend a mandatory training to renew your mandate.  Commitment varies as to availability and need.  All ministers are scheduled according to their Mass preferences.

Greeters

Greeters welcome the people prior to the celebration of Mass and special Liturgies or events - greeters set the tone, leading their warm, welcoming presence.  They assist in various roles such as bringing forward the gifts and distributing bulletins or take home materials.  The ministry is open to families as well as individuals.  Greeters are asked to arrive 20 minutes prior to the beginning of Mass.  They usually serve 1 1/2 hours per week when scheduled.  Commitment varies as to availability and need.  All ministers are scheduled according to their Mass preferences.

Proclaimers (Lectors)

These ministers are responsible for providing a prayerful and powerful proclamation of the Word of God at Saturday and Sunday Masses and for special liturgical celebrations.  This ministry is for those of great faith and devotion to God's Word.  Periodic group workshops and training sessions are required.  Proclaimers are expected to prepare the readings of the day from workbooks which are provided by the church.  Your gift of time will be to read at Mass as scheduled.  Commitment varies as to availability and need.  All ministers are scheduled according to their Mass preferences.

Sacristans

Sacristans are behind the scenes prior to the celebration of Mass and Special Liturgies to make the Mass or other service meaningful, spiritual, and efficient....Assisted by the Priest, sacristans take care of the ser up for each liturgy.  They do everything from turning on the lights to finding the correct readings for the day.  The ministry is open to individuals as well as couples.  Training is provided.  Sacristans are asked to arrive to set up at least 30 minutes before Mass.  This ministry requires about 2 hours.  Sacristans serve approximately 1 weekend a month.  Commitment varies as to availability and need.  All ministers are scheduled according to their Mass preferences.

Ushers

These men and women make Mass at Holy Cross an enjoyable and beneficial experience for all who attend.  They are there to greet and seat people, pass out bulletins and direct Communion.  Other responsibilities include taking-up the collection, straightening up pews after Mass and assisting people with health emergencies.  Serving as an usher is open to adults as well as young adults over the age of 14.  Ushers are asked to arrive 20 minutes prior to the beginning of Mass.  They usually serve 1 1/2 hours per week when scheduled.  Commitment varies as to availability and need.  All ministers are scheduled according to their Mass preferences.
